Our Story
After hearing about a community treasure hunt project on TV, my sister and I were so inspired that we decided to start Windows on a Whim, a treasure hunt project of our own, to have some fun and to spread some cheer to a few unsuspecting strangers.
With much excitement and joy in creating art, my sister (Julie) and I (Lisa) made a collection of whimsical, authentic stained glass windows with barn-board frames and a loop for hanging.
With a few treasured windows in hand, we set out on regular hikes, hanging windows slightly out of view on trees and bushes along the way. The windows hang, near walking paths and bike trails, waiting to be spotted by an observant individual passing by.
A tag on the window instructs the finder to post on social media using #WindowsOnAWhim, to register the window on this website, and to keep the window, leave it in place for someone else to find, or hide it in another location to spread the cheer to more distant locations.
While most windows are hidden in Minnesota, where us sisters live, some are placed farther away when vacations and travels take us to new locations.
Windows on a Whim, was launched in April of 2022.
